PHC orders payment of target-killed doctor’s salary, benefits under Shuhada Package

Peshawar High Court directed the provincial health department and Peshawar Lady Reading Hospital to provide salary and additional benefits to the family of a doctor target-killed in 2013 under the Shuhada Package.

A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth and Justice Abdul Shakoor issued the directives while hearing a petition filed by Sadiya Shahnawaz, the widow of Dr Shahnawaz Ali, who had pleaded the court concerning her husband’s outstanding salaries and other benefits awarded due under the Shuhada Package.

Dr Shahnawaz, an ophthalmologist and senior medical officer at LRH, was killed by unidentified gunmen at his private clinic in Liaquat Street of Peshawar cantonment area on Feb 22, 2013.

Police suspect that he was shot on sectarian grounds as he belonged to the Shia sect.
