Malakand saw hundreds of suicide cases within eight months

MALAKAND: 346 people committed suicide in the seven districts of Malakand dvision within the past eight months.

Most of the reported suicide cases were women, according to police.

Swat saw the highest number of suicides with 222 cases while Buner saw 73 and Shangla experience 26 cases. There were 15 suicide cases in Lower Dir, nine in Chitral, 33 in Mitta district and one case in Upper Dir.

Domestic problems and unemployment were cited by police among the primary reasons behind the suicides.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government had previously taken notice of increasing number of suicide cases in Chitral.

According to Chitral district nazim Maghfirat Shah, 70 per cent of the 12 suicide cases in the last six months were women.

Domestic issues were among the leading causes behind the over-representation of women in suicide cases.
