PTI govt inherited loss-making entities, says info minister

Federal Minister for information and Broadcasting Fawad Hussain on Friday said that the PTI government inherited the loss-making institutions like PIA, PTV, Radio Pakistan, Pakistan Steel Mills and Railways

He expressed these views in a tweet. Giving details, he said that PIA’s permanent employees were 14,800 and daily wagers were 3,700. The employees deployed per jet were more than 500. He said that the financial loss in 2017 was Rs 45 billion while the overall loss was Rs 356 billion.

Talking about Pakistan Steel Mills, he said total number of its employees was 17000 whose monthly salary bill was Rs 380 million while its overall loss was Rs 200 billion. He said Pakistan Steel Mills was going into loss since 2007.

He said the number of PTV employees was 10,000 and its yearly loss Rs 2.72 billion. Rs 7 billion were collected from the consumers of PTV (32 per person.

Radio Pakistan has 3900 employees while regular employees 2700 and non-regular employees were 1200. Their salary bill was Rs 1.6 billion while around Rs 1 billion were being paid as pensions. Radio Pakistan’s yearly loss was around Rs 1.25 billion. Quoting Railways, he said 78000 people were working in Railways and its yearly loss was Rs 42 billion. He said Railways’ overall loss was Rs 147 billion.
