PESHAWAR: Prime Minister Imran Khan Friday chaired a session to review progress on the government’s 100-day agenda programme where he directed the authorities to expedite the reforms package for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and its merger with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province.
In what was his maiden visit to Peshawar after since he assumed office last month, PM Imran Khan was briefed on the performance of the KP government.
Advisor to the Prime Minister on Establishment Affairs Arbab Shahzad, Special Assistant Naeemul Haq and Iftikhar Durrani accompanied the PM on his visit to Peshawar.
The prime minister directed authorities concerned to expedite work on FATA reforms and expressed the hope that the people of tribal areas will benefit from these reforms.
PM Khan was also briefed about the steps being taken for holding of local government elections in those tribal areas which have recently been merged into the province.
The meeting was attended by KP Governor Shah Farman and Chief Minister Mehmood Khan.
PM Khan has directed to complete Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project and Swat Motorway in time.
He gave these directions during his meeting with KP cabinet in Peshawar on Friday.
The PM said all projects should be completed within the stipulated time and with utmost transparency.
He also directed to take more steps for the promotion of tourism in the province. He said setting up of hospitals’ boards and administrative reforms in the health sector should be completed at the earliest.
The premier asked the provincial government to launch an anti-encroachment drive in the province on the pattern of the same being spearheaded by the federal government in Islamabad.
He said the KP government should vigorously support the national cleanliness drive. He was briefed about the ongoing projects in the province.
The prime minister assured all possible cooperation from the federal government to the province in the interest of the KP people.
NO PROTOCOL:
The premier reached Peshawar and drove to the Chief Minister House from the airport without any protocol, spokesman of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government MPA Shaukat Yousafzai said.
In a message issued here, he said Prime Minister Imran Khan had issued instructions to the governor, chief minister and chief secretary not to come to the airport to receive him.
He said in the meeting only tea was served to the participants comprising cabinet members of KP and high-ranking officials.
