NEW YORK: Stability in Pakistan is directly related to peace in Afghanistan, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi told US adviser on Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad on Thursday.

Qureshi made the comments during a meeting with Khalilzad and senior official of South and Central Asian Affairs in the US State Department Alice Wells.

Khalilzad was re-appointed as an adviser to the US State Department earlier this month.

Khalilzad and Qureshi agreed to work together in order to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan.

“Ambassador Khalilzad is going to join the State Department team to assist us in the reconciliation effort … and be the State Department’s lead person for that purpose,” US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had informed reporters during his flight to Pakistan earlier this month.
