After a humiliating performance of Pakistan cricket team in Asia Cup 2018, private cab service, ride-hailing service Careem offered team’s captain Sarfraz Ahmed a job and social media users were not happy about it.

Offering him the job, Careem tweeted: “ How about signing up as our Captain now?”

The tweet drew the ire of social media users due to its “bad taste”.

One user criticised the company and wrote: “es agreed but this not humour sir at all with due respect this is a bad joke about a national hero a betrayal of a nobleman.”

Mentioning Sarfraz’s achievement in ICC Champions Trophy, one wrote: “O bhai, you are Disrespecting our National Hero, He Is The Only Captain Who Lift ICC Champions Trophy.

Reacting the tweet, another one wrote: “Our mobiles are on to uninstall app.”

Later, Careem clarified their tweet, saying that “we were just trying to let them know that the doors to our hearts are always open for them.”

Reacting to the “clarification tweet”, one of the users wrote: “Your first blunder was to insult our national hero belonging to Karachi, and your second blunder is to justify your first blunder.”

Sports journalist Faizan Lakhani, however, asked the user not to bring any city in it but criticised Careem’s tweet: “Tayyab. No need to bring any city. It doesn’t matter Sarfraz or Hafeez, Misbah or Afridi, Karachi or Lahore. A player must be respected, one can always criticise on performance, but this attempt of being funny by Careem is not good. Buray waqt main sb taang khenchne lagtay hain.”
