FM Qureshi discusses bilateral relations with British counterpart

NEW YORK: Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mehmood Qureshi met with his British counterpart Jeremy Hunt on the sidelines of 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York and discussed bilateral relations.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi stressed for a need to improve bilateral ties with the UK. He stressed to enhance cooperation in political, security and defence, trade and investment, education and development spheres.

During the meeting, Hunt congratulated Qureshi on his appointment as Pakistan’s foreign minister.

Qureshi also briefed hunt on relations with Afghanistan and grave human rights violations being committed by Indian security forces in Indian occupied Kashmir.

He said peace and stability in Afghanistan was a shared responsibility, and Pakistan would continue to support the structured bilateral engagement plan through five working groups of Afghanistan Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity (APAPPS) to address all matters of mutual interest.

Secretary Hunt extended an invitation to Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to visit UK, according to an official statement.

On Friday, FM Qureshi will speak at the Asia Society where he will interact with American academics, foreign policy experts and students. He is also scheduled to meet with his US counterpart Mike Pompeo on October 2.

The high-level huddle with the US diplomat is one of the top agendas of Qureshi’s week-long visit to the US, which is aimed at following up on the progress made in the former’s visit to Islamabad earlier.

The foreign minister will apprise the world over the fresh violence by Indian forces in Kashmir, regional and world situation during his address to United Nation General Assembly session on September 29. He will also hold about 40 meetings with other leaders from various countries during his stay.

Qureshi, who is in New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly session, said, “Our Policy is Pakistan, Pakistan, and Pakistan.”
