MUZAFFARABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly while paying tribute to former first lady Begum Kulsoom Nawaz Wednesday expressed grief over her death and condoled with former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
Through two separate resolutions moved by Deputy Speaker Sardar Farooq Ahmad Tahir and MLA Chaudhry Rukhsar Ahmad, the House acknowledged her struggle for the restoration of democracy during 1999 to 2002 against the regime of General (r) Pervez Musharraf.
The resolutions unanimously adopted by the House said Begum Kulsoom Nawaz was a brave first lady and a wise politician, who led the restoration for democracy movement at a difficult time when all the senior leadership was behind the bars.
“The brave lady stood against the military dictator and encouraged party workers to come out for the restoration of democracy,” the resolution recalled and said her services for the country would be long remembered.
The resolution expressed grief over her death and sympathised with the bereaved family and said the people and government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir shared the grief with the family as she also had a relationship with Kashmir.
