Punjab CM removes superintendent over Nawaz-Abbasi meeting in Adiala

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar on Tuesday removed Adiala Jail superintendent after pictures of a meeting between Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif and senior leader Hanif Abbasi in the prison surfaced, resulting in a wide controversy.

Nawaz Sharif, who was released on September 19 from prison after his sentence in Panama Papers case was suspended by a court, was photographed with Abbasi in the office of the jail superintendent. The pictures went viral and stirred controversy as Abbasi is detained in a corruption case.

CM Usman Buzdar, rejecting an internal inquiry report on the matter, ordered to suspend Superintendent Saeedullah Gondal.

Earlier, the inquiry report prepared by the committee comprising Multan Prisons DIG and Judicial AIG Malik Safdar had cleared Gondal of any responsibility and instead held deputy superintendent and other officials responsible.

The Punjab chief minister also ordered an inquiry against Prisons Rawalpindi DIG.
