ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday approved a summary for the appointment of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Gilgit Baltistan (GB) President Raja Jalal as the new governor.
The summary has been forwarded to President Dr Arif Alvi for an approval and the notification in this regard will be issued subsequently.
Raja Jalal will be the sixth GB governor after Mir Ghazanfar Ali Khan, who resigned earlier this month. According to party officials, Jalal will be taking oath as governor within the ongoing week.
Earlier, Mir Ghazanfar Ali Khan had resigned from the post following the demand by the federal government. Ghazanfar, who was appointed by the previous Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, sent his resignation to President Arif Alvi.
It was reported that Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Political Affairs Naeemul Haq had the conveyed the message to the GB governor that the new federal government wanted to replace him.
