Anti-polio campaign begins in Karachi, other cities

A week-long polio vaccination campaign was launched in Karachi on Monday which is expected to vaccinate more than 2.2 million children up to the age of five years covering 188 union councils of the city, a private media outlet reported.

Earlier on Sunday, a meeting was held at the Commissioner Office where it was decided that foolproof security measures will be taken for the campaign. It was also decided that clerics and communities would be taken into confidence and their services obtained to complete the work.

Karachi Commissioner Saleh Farooqui directed the officials to pay special focus to the children who have not been administered polio drops earlier. He ordered to ensure that measures are taken to remove the hurdles so that all children have easy access to the vaccine. The Sindh education department will also be extending its services for the campaign, according to the press statement. “We urge parents to cooperate with us,” Farooqui said, adding that this would only secure the future of their children.

NATIONAL POLIO CAMPAIGN IN FIVE DISTRICTS OF LARKANA DIVISION:

Five-day National Polio Day Campaign for polio eradication, being observed to make Pakistan a polio-free country, was started from Monday throughout Larkana, Kamber-Shahdadkot, Shikarpur, Jacobabad and Kandhkot-Kashmore districts of Larkana division up to September 28th.

The teams visiting door-to-door, remote and far-flung areas of the Five Districts to administer Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) to the 1178360 children up to the age of five years.

The District Health Departments Larkana, Kamber-Shahdadkot, Shikarpur, Jacobabad and Kandhkot-Kashmore districts have been given more than 3100 mobile and fixed teams which will visit every house in the five districts of the Larkana region and administered Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) to the children up to five years of age.
