GUJRANWALA: A human skeleton has been discovered in a water tank of the city’s Ladhaywala Warraich locality.
As per the details, the skeleton has been identified as Babar, a 30-year-old, who, according to his family, had gone missing a year and a half ago.
An eyewitness told Pakistan Today that the skeleton was found in a water tank that has been dysfunctional for the past 15 years. “It was discovered when a group of children on Sunday climbed to the top of the water tank to catch a pigeon. They suspected something strange in the tank, which was later identified as a human skeleton by the rescue teams,” he said.
Station House Officer (SHO) of the police station concerned, Faisal Moin, has said that an investigation is underway. “It is too early to comment on the matter as the forensic reports have not arrived yet.”
Meanwhile, the investigation in-charge, Sardar Naeem, told Pakistan Today that the skeleton was identified as Babar after his brother recognised the mobile phone. He further said that a missing person FIR had been registered by the family on July 12, 2017.
“The water tank is 50 to 60ft above the ground level and according to the dynamics of the location it is not easy to carry a dead body all the way to the top,” he said and added that considering this, it appears to be an accidental death.
The remains have been shifted to the district headquarters hospital for forensics while the family wants the police to pursue a murder investigation.
