Heat wave in Karachi likely to continue till Sep 26: MET dept

The wave of heat is surviving in in Karachi as the temperature is likely to cross 38 C on Sunday.

In response to the extreme weather conditions, an emergency has been imposed at government hospitals. Also, the doctors have also strongly advised the public to keep themselves safe from scorching sunlight and use plenty of water to prevent dehydration.

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that this hot weather is likely to continue till Wednesday.

The scorching heat spell that began on June 19 continued for more than five days. It left at least 1200 people dead while 40,000 suffered heatstroke and exhaustion.

GOVT TO SET UP HEATSTROKE CAMPS:

In view of the prevailing hot season in Karachi, the government of Sindh has ordered to set up heatstroke centres in the megacity besides alerting hospitals to prepare for heatstroke cases.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has instructed health secretary to set up heatstroke centers in all hospitals and ensure such arrangements on priority.

He asked commissioner Karachi that deputy commissioners should be asked to ensure supply of water to public places. He said local bodies should also set up camps at the local level to provide cool drinking water to citizens.
