Tahirul Qadri pins hope on PM Imran for justice in Model Town incident

LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Tahirul Qadri has said that the Model Town incident is the first test for Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

Qadri, who arrived in Lahore from Istanbul early on Wednesday, said that his party is hopeful of justice.

“The culprits of the Model Town massacre roam free. Fourteen people were martyred. The sons and daughters of this land were dragged and lynched and now it is PTI’s first test to guarantee justice to the victims and their families,” he said.

He also demanded that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif and party leader Rana Sanaullah be imprisoned. “Now that the government of murderers and thieves is replaced by those who believe in honesty and justice, I demand imprisonment of Shehbaz Sharif and Rana Sanaullah,” said Qadri.

Talking to media persons at the Allama Iqbal International Airport, Qadri reiterated his demand for justice for the victims of Model Town tragedy. Qadri said that PTI chief Imran Khan had supported them in raising the issue of the Model Town tragedy. He hoped that Khan would keep his promise.

Expressing his grief and sorrow over the demise of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, the PAT chief also offered prayers for the departed soul.  To a question, Qadri replied that he has already expressed his condolence with the Sharif family over the demise of Kulsoom Nawaz.
