When we talk about smoking, a common person would realise that it is a health concern for both men and women, because it just doesn’t damage nearly every organ in the body but is also responsible for a range of diseases.

However, if you are a student of National University of Science and Technology (NUST), this doesn’t seem to be the case. Over there, smoking is a health concern only if you are a man and that is why the university has allocated a designated smoking area… for men.

A notification issued by NUST has been circulating on social media that claims that a smoking area has been designated for the students, however, girls are not allowed in these smoking areas. Moreover, they will be fined if caught violating the rules.

“Girls are NOT ALLOWED at these smoking areas. In case of violation, a fine of Rs 1000 will be imposed,” the notification said.

Moreover, it stated that in addition to the fine “a notification to the parents will be issued”.

From this notification, it can be said that the university’s administration is concerned about smoking, as an issue, for men, but, from the second half of the statement it can be stated that it is more of a moral than a health issue if you are a girl, studying at NUST.
