KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday declared that reports presented by police regarding missing persons were ‘unsatisfactory’.
The SHC directed authorities to initiate practical measures to recover missing persons as well during the hearing of petitions regarding more than 60 missing persons.
The presiding judge observed that despite the formation of the Joint Investigation Teams (JIT), missing persons had not been recovered.
“We don’t want anyone’s loved ones to go missing,” the SHC judge said, adding that the investigation officer of the Sindh police is changed each time a hearing over the matter is conducted.
Sindh Police Inspector General (IG) Kaleem Imam, DG Rangers Major General Muhammad Saeed, Sindh home secretary and other senior officials have been directed by the SHC to submit a follow-up report on October 17.
The SHC further directed authorities to formulate a new JIT to find four missing persons namely Ghazi Khan, Muhammad Jamil, Sher Afzal, and Sheraz. The Sindh police has has been ordered to appoint “at least a DIG” for the task.
According to a police report presented in court, the four missing persons were killed by Uzair Baloch gang but the petitioners’ lawyer demanded evidence of the allegation.
“This court is concerned with the recovery of missing persons. We won’t be satisfied with mere rhetoric,” said Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto.
