ISLAMABAD:  The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday directed to remove former finance minister Ishaq Dar from the chairmanship of University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore Board of Governors.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar heard a suo motu case regarding administrative problems in UHS. The directive to remove Dar from the post was made during the hearing.

The Punjab government has been ordered to appoint a replacement within three days as well.

“As per the rules, a meeting of UHS board of governors should be held every two years but the last meeting took place in 2016,” remarked CJP Nisar.

“The chairman of BoGs, Dar, has run away from the country and the court has issued red warrants against him after declaring him as absconding,” he added.

“The board is dysfunctional during the chairman’s absence,” the CJP observed.

The interior ministry and all stakeholders have also been directed to submit a reply to the apex court over the matter.

A suo motu notice of administrative problems in UHS was taken by CJP Nisar on Tuesday.
