ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal on Tuesday lauded his department saying that it was NAB’s efforts due to which national and international organisations have rated a decrease in Pakistan’s Corruption Perception Index from 175 to 116.
He was chairing in the federal capital, where he added that NAB is committed to a corruption-free Pakistan and will recover looted money from corrupt persons while bringing them to justice as per law.
Pakistan is the only country whose corruption perception index is persistently on a declining trend.
The NAB chairman described bribery and corruption as the ‘real poison’, saying “we must put it down with an iron hand.”
“Father of nation Quaid-e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had also termed bribery and corruption as ‘one of the biggest curses,'” said Javed Iqbal.
He said the bureau has chalked out a comprehensive operational methodology for the proceeding of cases complaint verification, inquiry and investigation.
The chairman stated that the possibility of any single NAB officer/official influencing discharge of official business is a thing of the past as the concept of a “Combined Investigation Team” (CIT) has been introduced where two investigation officers and a legal consultant are working as a team for a fair, transparent and unbiased inquiries and investigations.
Justice Javed said that NAB has apprehended various corrupt and presented them before the respective Accountability Courts as per law, adding that the bureau had been unanimously elected as Chairman of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Anti-Corruption Forum.
He said NAB with improved infrastructure and rationalised workload, timelines have been prescribed for efficient, effective and expeditious disposal of cases.
