Jammu Kashmir Awami Workers Party (JKAWP) conducted a protest outside the National Press Club in Islamabad over ecological problems in Muzaffarabad, a local media outlet reported on Sunday.
The protesters claim the ecological problems affecting the residents of Muzaffarabad are ‘state-created’.
Water shortage in the Neelum River, which flows through the city, has been cited as a major issue.
Approximately 90 per cent of the water in part of the river that flows into Muzaffarabad has dried up after the construction of the Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project.
A press release by the party claimed that authorities had promised only a 20 per cent reduction in water flow when construction started in 2008.
