Former military dictator and All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) Chairman General (r) Pervez Musharraf has announced to donate Rs15 million to the dams fund established by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar.

The announcement was made on the official twitter handle of the APML.

It is pertinent to mention here that in 2006, Gen Musharraf laid the foundation and performed the ground-breaking of the $6.5 billion Diamer-Bhasha dam and declared that all dams, including Kalabagh, would be built under the ‘2016 Water Vision’ to meet the growing water and energy requirements of the country.

“Water and energy are matters of life and death for us. We have to build all dams,” he had then said.

The dam fund was initiated by the Supreme Court to construct Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams to fight water scarcity in the country.

Chief Justice Nisar said that construction of new dams is critical for Pakistan’s survival, promising that he would continue his efforts for the purpose even after his retirement.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has also reiterated the importance of constructing dams in the country, however he said that the government is unable to make budget allocations for water-related projects because it is already under heavy debt.
