Late Begum Kalsoom Nawaz, wife of Nawaz Sharif, had played an important role in recovery of six bloggers and progressive social media activists who had gone missing in early 2017 during the last tenure of Nawaz Sharif as prime minister.
Awami Workers Party spokesperson Farooq Tariq tweeted about the incident while quoting human right lawyer and social activist late Asma Jahangir. Farooq said that Asma had told him that she had gone to meet Kalsoom Nawaz and asked her to help recover six missing bloggers. Ms Kalsoom made a call to her husband who was in Multan at that time. First lady told the premier that Asma was here and she would not leave the place until the bloggers are released. Nawaz promised their release and after a weak, these bloggers were released despite the opposition of those who held them.

These bloggers included Salman Haider, Ahmed Waqas Goraya, Asim Saeed, Ahmed Raza Naseer and Samar Abbas
The missing activists were vocal against extremism and terrorism on social media and have also been critical of the government and military establishment for their alleged failure to fully implement anti-terror plan in the country.
