Children Hospital staff awaits salaries

KARACHI: The staff of Sindh Government Children Hospital (SGCH), North Karachi, employed by Poverty Eradication Initiative (PEI), are yet to be paid their salaries due to the shortage of funds, sources at SGCH told PPI on Thursday.

The sources said that more than 350 staff members including doctors, paramedical staff, nurses and administrative officials who are working under the PEI, a non-governmental organisation, go without salaries as Sindh health department has not released the budget for this health facility.

The hospital runs under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model of the Sindh government. The employees have been deprived of their salaries for almost two months and are facing financial problems.

They told media persons that the doctors, paramedics, nurses and administrative staff of Sindh health department had received their last month’s salaries while only the staff of the PEI is paid salaries so far.

PEI’s Chief Executive Officer at SGCH, Dr Fatima, while talking to PPI, said the delay in the release of budget from Sindh government for the hospital has caused problems for the administration.

She said that the PEI administration is providing medicines and surgical disposals to the patient but it is unable to pay salaries to its employees due to the shortage of funds.
