I’m sure all them millennials can agree that the 90’s was the best decade to grow up in because we actually did have a childhood outside of our tablet and phone screens. TV was limited to only that time of the day when the ‘childrens’ show’ used to air.
And what a treat those shows were. Some of them are still etched in our memory and we feel nostalgic every time we get a glimpse of them while surfing the internet or flipping through TV channels.
One never gets tired of watching these TV shows, mostly because of the most important aspect of any TV show: the theme song which remain in our subconscious mind and we can sing it anytime, anywhere, even after 20-something years. No matter where you are, the minute you hear that first couple of notes you know exactly what’s about to go down.
We’ve compiled a list of 12 of our favourite theme songs – feel free to sing along or even dance to these epic ballads:
1 – Scooby Doo
We start with this because who doesn’t remember ‘The Mystery Machine’, and the ‘Scooby Snacks’.
2 – Spongebob Squarepants
This is probably one of the most iconic children’s shows of our generation, everybody knew what time it was when the pirate face appeared on the screen. We all wanted to have a friend like Patrick as well, maybe we still do.
3 -Pokémon
Gotta catch ’em all.
5 – The Addams Family
They’re creepy and they’re kooky, mysterious and spooky, they’re altogether ooky, The Addams Family.
Who remembers Thing, Cousin Itt, Lurch, Wednesday, Morticia, Uncle Fester, we know we loved these characters.
6 – Gummi Bears
We have always learnt so much from Gummi Bears. Not only were they super cute but their adventures always took us on a whole new journey.
7 – Captain Planet
Earth, Wind, Fire, Water – Goo Planet.
Captain Planet always taught us how to take care of our planet and “take the pollution down to zero”, in our opinion, this is something that we all should binge watch again, considering how much of the Earth’s resources we have managed to destroy.
8 – The Suite Life of Zack and Cody
All the girls had a crush on the Sprouse twins. Most of the girls still do, because they grew up to be handsome young men. But the relationship between Carrie and the sons was relatable, and still is with all the mom’s and their kids.
9 – Codename: Kids Next Door
They were our saviours. But we always wondered what Number 5’s sister looked like and what their actual names were.
10 – Popeye
The only reasons kids back then used to eat their greens was so they could be as strong as Popeye.
11 – Pink Panther
THE BEST THEME SONG EVER. Need I say more?
12 – Lizzie McGuire
This was the perfect high school show. Moreover, it was relatable as all of us had boy/girl problems, fights with friends, studies to ace, siblings, popular kids to deal with. The friendship between Lizzie, Miranda and Gordo was just so heart-warming that we all wished for a trio like that.
It was quite a feat shortlisting the Top 12 considering we grew up watching so many cartoons/shows that all hold a special place in our heart. Who knows there might be a part 2 of this post.
Which theme song is your favourite?
