LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb has said that former prime minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz did not issue any statement and those being attributed to her are false.
The PML-N spokesperson said, “For the past two days, source-based comments attributed to Maryam have been doing the rounds but they have not been issued by her.”
“Maryam’s statements during a recent interview from jail are being portrayed in the wrong light,” she added.
She urged, “This needs to be avoided.”
Aurangzeb also requested media outlets air statements issued via the official spokesperson instead of running source-based comments.
She asserted, “It is inappropriate to make speculations based on word-of-mouth.”
Earlier, a TV anchor had interviewed the former PM’s daughter in Adiala Jail and claimed that she was unhappy with PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif’s political decisions.
Moreover, it was also reported that Maryam had spoken to reporters after she had been granted release on parole to attend her mother’s funeral.
Maryam was quoted as saying, “It is extremely painful that I wasn’t by my mother’s side as she breathed her last and I am deeply saddened.”
