In order to curb the rising use of methamphetamine, also known as “crystal meth” or “ice”, in North Waziristan, the district administration has imposed a complete ban on sale and purchase of the drug in the district for one month.

NWA District Magistrate Abdul Nasir Khan stated that any person found selling and purchasing the drug in the limits of North Waziristan shall be arrested and proceeded against under the law.

The order, a copy of which is available with Pakistan Today, reads, “It has been reported that many ice dealers/sellers and drug peddlers are operating in North Waziristan, resultantly the young people of this district are being affected.”

“Under the authority of powers vested upon me under the section 144 Cr P C, I hereby impose a complete ban on sale and purchase of the drug in North Waziristan,” the letter added.

The district magistrate directed that immediate actions are taken and preventive measures are adopted to curb the menace.
