Tributes and condolences have poured in from all over Pakistan following the demise of Kulsoom Nawaz, the former first lady and wife of Pakistan’s jailed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. Begum Kulsoom died on Tuesday in London after a prolonged illness.
The workings of Nawaz Sharif as head of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have often been subjected to intense criticism in the past, but nobody has ever denied Kusoom Nawaz’s services for her husband’s political struggle. The dignity with which the former first lady carried herself over the years has also been appreciated by all, including her husband’s rivals.
