Actor Hamza Ali Abbasi on Tuesday took to Twitter to express his opinions regarding former first lady Kulsoom Nawaz’s death following a months-long battle with throat cancer.
He started by saying that people should not disrespect the deceased by saying that Sharif family members serving sentences should be released.
#KulsoomNawaz Inna lillah e wa inna aleyhey rajioun. May Allah have mercy on her soul. Its a request to please not disrespect the deceased by politically manipulating her death & giving opinions like Nawaz & Maryam should be freed because Kulsoom sahiba died etc etc. Please! pic.twitter.com/QdrfGN0Zx6

He said that the sympathy people had was disgusting.
#KulsoomNawaz Absolutely disgusting how some people r using Kulsoom bibis death to gain sympathy for Nawaz & Maryam & trying to portray them as tragic heroes. Shameful… Utterly shameful & disgusting. May Allah have mercy on Kulsoom bibi’s soul & may Allah give us some decency.

#KulsoomNawaz After her death, lets remember her as one of those who stood firmly against dictatorship of Musharraf & struggled for democracy. “Every soul shall taste death” Al Quran.

#KulsoomNawaz Yes i tweeted this be4 elections & i stand by it. Its disgusting to use ur wifes illness in PAID ad election campaigns to gain sympathy. Sorry for sounding insensitive at a time of grief for Sharif Family but propaganda against me on my tweet by PMLN is disgusting! pic.twitter.com/QfXirt5ax3

He explained that he was tweeting in response to the bashing he was facing on social media.
Again i am sorry for sounding insensitive at this moment of grief but i have the right to defend myself when i see my old tweet being misused and i see myself bashed and insulted unprovoked on N league social media pages. https://t.co/GRlrNye54a

This is not the first time Abbasi has come under the spotlight for his tweets. In April, he tweeted a rather confused and judgemental understanding of harassment.
Random thought: With this entire #MeToo global epidemic on the rise, I am beginning to realise that ISLAM was right all along when it ordains gap between the 2 genders. So called modernism has brought us to a point where the line between flirting & harassment is insanely blurred.

In May, Abbasi tried to shift focus from the Manchester attacks by making suffering about the Muslim world.

This did not go down well with the public and people had openly called out his childish behaviour.

One user even foresaw how Hamza might leave a bad taste in the mouth at somebody’s funeral.
