Court issues notices over non-appearance of Anwar Majeed, son in court

KARACHI: A banking court on Tuesday issued notices to the jail superintendent and doctors who have issued medical certificates to Omni Group Chairman Anwar Majeed and his son Abdul Ghani Majeed in order to prevent their appearance in court regarding the Rs 35 billion money laundering case.

The banking court had taken up the case for hearing on Tuesday.

During the course of the hearing, suspect Anwar Majeed and his son Abdul Ghani were not produced before the court. Jail officials told the court that they were given medical certificates when they went to the hospital to bring both the suspects to court.

They further said that according to doctors, both suspects Anwar Majeed and his son Abdul Ghani were not well.

The court has summoned the doctors who had issued medical certificates besides issuing a notice to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) doctor, Naveed Ullah Khan. Additionally, Jinnah Hospital doctor, Nosheen Iqbal has also been summoned.

Furthermore, the jail superintendent has also been issued a notice for not presenting the accused before the court.

The doctors and jail superintendent have been ordered to appear before the court on September 25 to clarify their position.
