–As many as 69,545 policemen to be deployed for security of the province
KARACHI: As many as 786 mourning processions would be held in Sindh, of them 11 are termed most sensitive, 312 sensitive and 463 normal.
In a high-level meeting on law and order to review security arrangements of Muharram, it was decided that as mnany as 69,545 policemen would be deployed all over Sindh. The deployment of police in Karachi will be 17,558, Hyderabad 16,816, Mirpurkhas 2,237, Shaheed Benazirabad 9,280, Sukkur 8,253 and Larkana division 15,401. Apart from this, Rangers will also deploy a force of around 7,000 all over Sindh.
The meeting was presided over by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and attended by provincial ministers Saeed Ghani, Syed Nasir Husain Shah, CM’s Advisor Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary Major (r) Azam Suleman and Additional IG Special Branch Dr Waliullah Dall. Home Secretary Kazi Kabir briefed the meeting about code of conduct for all religions and other organizations for maintaining law and order during Muharram. The chief minister directed the district administration and law enforcement agencies to ensure peace, tranquility and inter-sect harmony.
The Sindh CM said that Ulema of different schools of thought had played a very constructive role in maintaining sectarian harmony among the people of Sindh; therefore, there was no chance of any untoward incident during the holy month. However, he said his government was making strict security measures and implementing code of conduct.
The home secretary on the occasion said that all the DIGs had been directed to assess and provide adequate security to notables till Chehlum of Imam Hussain (AS), adding that meetings of peace committees were being held at all levels.
Additional IGP Karachi Dr Ameer Shaikh told the meeting that that there were 1,996 Imambargahs in the province, of them 356 were in Karachi, 590 in Hyderabad division, 118 in Mirpurkhas, 93 in Shaheed Benazirabad, 374 in Sukkur and 456 in Larakana division.
The chief minister directed commissioner Karachi to use CCTV cameras procured for monitoring of polling stations during the general election. “We can use these CCTV cameras at places where they are required,” he said. The meeting was told that the processions of 8, 9 and 10th Muharram would be monitored through 184 CCTV cameras. As many as 43 different spots of processions’ routes would also be monitored through 55 mobile cameras and 129 fixed cameras. The centralized command and control room has been established at CPO and regional command center at Civic Center.
