LAHORE: The Punjab Governor’s House has opened its doors to the masses, Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar announced on Monday.
Talking to journalists, the Punjab governor said, “State-owned buildings are the country’s assets.”
The Governor House will remain open to the public from 10 am to 6 pm.
On Sunday, the Governor House in Murree was also opened for the public after the Punjab governor gave the order following Prime Minister Imran Khan’s directives on the matter.
On September 7, the Sindh Governor House had opened its doors for the citizens. The public has been allowed to walk in the spacious garden and to see the historic building.
Following the win in the recent general election, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf said, “It would take austerity measures to curb excessive expenditures and promised to end the VVIP culture of government functionaries.”
The party’s nominated governors in Sindh and Punjab, Imran Ismail and Chaudhry Sarwar, had also promised to use the minimum resources for themselves from the government expenditure.
Moreover, the federal government has identified 12 important buildings for bringing them into public use, according to a private news outlet. Reports said that the official residences of the prime minister, chief ministers and governors would be opened for public.
In this regard, Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood will be giving an important briefing to PM Imran Khan on Thursday.
Mehmood is the head of the committee formed regarding key buildings.
