FAPUASA demand immediate restoration of sacked professors

ISLAMABAD: The Federation of All Pakistan University Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA), a representative body of university teachers across Pakistan, has called for an end to victimization and immediate restoration of two sacked faculty members.

The two faculty members had criticized irregularities, illegal appointments and award of BS International Relations degree to Abdul Majeed Aldarweish, the son of President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI).

Through a letter addressed to the IIUI president, FAPUASA Central President Dr Mahboob Hussain said, “The news of termination of two professors is really disturbing and disappointing for the university faculties all over Pakistan. We, the representatives of teaching faculty around the country, feel and share with great concern the grief and trouble that the family members, students and colleagues of these worthy professors are experiencing. This act is a thorough victimization of respected teaching professors.”

Universities are supposed to be the centers of sharing ideas and it is expected that the difference of opinion must not be any charge to punish the faculty members, Mahboob added.

“I am bound to put before your highness the demand of FAPUASA that the professors may respectfully be reinstated with immediate effect,” he said, adding that the prevailing circumstances are inviting countrywide protest. He advised proper resolution of the issue to avoid protest in this regard.

The federation is approaching the President of Pakistan, who is also the Chancellor of IIUI, federal minister of education and Higher Education Commission chairman to intervene and resolve the matter amicably because termination of university teachers in such a way cannot be acceptable, he concluded.
