Serving Pakistan was my heartfelt desire: Atif Mian

Excluded member of the Economic Advisory Council (EAC) Atif Mian said on Friday that serving the country will always remain an inherent part of his faith, adding that he will always be ready to serve Pakistan as “it is the country in which I was raised and which I love a great deal”.

Reacting to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s U-turn over his appointment in the EAC, the famed economist admitted that he resigned “as the government was facing a lot of adverse pressure from the Mullahs (Muslim clerics) and their supporters.”

Atif Mian, in a series of tweets, expressed his disappointment at the PTI government for succumbing to the pressure from far-right who protested his appointment in the council due to his religious beliefs from day one.

“Moving forward, I now hope and pray that the Economic Advisory Council is able to fulfill its mandate in the very best way so that the Pakistani people and nation can prosper and flourish,” he said.

The former member of PM Imran Khan’s economic council said he will pray that the government will take the right initiatives that are necessary to avert the economic crisis.

He tweeted, “My prayers will always be with Pakistan and I will always be ready to help it in any way that is required.”
