KARACHI: Sindh government on Wednesday suspended the chief chemical examiner for violating the rule of secrecy while checking the contents within the bottles recovered from Sharjeel Memon’s sub-jail.

Footage of the ‘chemical examination’ of the contents of liquor bottles found in Sharjeel Memon’s had raised questions on the operating procedure and method of examiners as they apparently declared the contents as oil and honey just by smelling and tasting them, without performing any chemical tests.

The bottles were found on Saturday during a surprise visit of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar to Ziauddin Hospital where Memon, who has been arrested in a corruption case, had been shifted from jail for medical treatment.

Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister for Information Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that the chief chemical examiner was removed from his duties following his failure in performing his official duties.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the advisor said it is the violation of the code of conduct set for the government officials to disclose any confidential matter before the public or media.

“The chief chemical examiner has been removed from his job for breaching the law by disclosing the video of chemical examination and making it viral on the social media and other platforms. His suspension must not be taken in the negative sense,” Wahab added.

The advisor further stated that it is the prerogative of the Sindh Government to remove any of its officers for violating the services rules.
