KARACHI: The administration of the Karachi Central Jail on Wednesday sent a request to the investigation team, probing former Sindh information minister and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Inam Memon, to conduct his DNA test.
The jail administration has made a verbal request to the investigation team which will be followed by a written one.
Moreover, the jail administration will also request that the latest DNA test results should be compared to the results that came out before.
Earlier on Tuesday, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar had hinted at transferring the former Sindh minister to a prison in Punjab in case of non-cooperation by the Sindh government, saying liquor samples recovered from the former minister’s hospital room had been “tampered” with.
Earlier on Monday, a medical report had revealed that there were no traces of alcohol in Memon’s blood, while a chemical examination of the two liquor bottles recovered from the imprisoned politician’s hospital room had also been declared free of alcohol.
Earlier on September 1, PPP’s imprisoned MPA Memon, who was at Karachi’s Ziauddin Hospital on the pretext of illness, had been found to be in possession of “liquor bottles and drugs” after CJP Nisar had paid a surprise visit to the hospital he was being treated in.
“When Sharjeel Memon was asked about the liquor, he said they were not his,” Justice Nisar had said, relating his surprise early-morning visit before hearing cases at the Supreme Court’s Karachi registry.
