CJP takes action against fake web channels, fake journalists

Chief Justice of Pakistan mian Saqib Nisar has taken the notice of fake web channels and fake journalists.

According to details, an owner of a TV channel has appealed to the CJP to take action against fake web channels and especially against the fake journalists and impersonators who were looting the people through social media. The CJP has also directed the concerned to file detailed report in this regard.

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has been asked to take urgent action against the fake web channels and the impersonators who were plundering the people through these web channels. Complaint can be lodged with the PEMRA anytime on 0619210220 and on PEMRA website. The name of the complainant would be kept secret.

Earlier, Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said that the Press Council of Pakistan (PCP) and the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) will be replaced by a new and unified regulatory authority which will have purview over electronic media, social media and print media.

The information minister said, “[The PTI government] has decided [to do away] with PEMRA and PCP and to form a single, unified authority to oversee print as well as electronic and cyber media.”

The new authority will be called the Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority (PMRA), according to Information Minister Chaudhry.

Moreover, the PEMRA will also comprise senior representatives and officials from the media industry, according to the minister.
