Babar Awan, Pervaiz Ashraf summoned in Nandipur reference on Sept 18

ISLAMABAD: An accountability court on Wednesday summoned former adviser to prime minister on parliamentary affairs, Babar Awan, former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and five others in a corruption reference pertaining to the Nandipur power project.

The hearing of the case was held in Islamabad accountability court.

The reference was filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) over alleged delay in the project, inflicting a whooping Rs 27 billion loss to national exchequer. The court has also ordered former law secretary Masood Chishti and Riaz Kiyani to appear before the court on the same day.

The hearing of the case will be resumed on September 18 and Accountability Judge Arshad Malik will hear the case.

Earlier, Babar Awan tendered resignation from his post after the NAB filed a reference against him in the accountability court over the scam.

In his resignation to Prime Minister Imran Khan, the PTI leader said that he resigned from his post to prove the allegations against him are baseless.

Babar Awan stated that the rule of law should begin from him, adding that he is not one of those who would stick to their positions.

In his handwritten resignation, Babar Awan had said, “I am resigning as an advisor to PM so as to prove baseless allegations of NAB wrong.”

Former federal minister for water and power, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, along with other officers of the ministry, also face a corruption reference for the delay in the power project.
