PESHAWAR: Awami National Party (ANP) leader Ibrar Khalil, who was candidate for the PK-74, along with his nephew Rashid Khan on Wednesday gunned down here in the provincial capital.

The incident took place when unidentified motorcyclists fired upon the vehicle of the ANP leader in the jurisdiction of Tehkal police station. The victim leader had announced to contest by-poll from Peshawar PK-74 which are scheduled on October 14.

In July, ANP’s candidate for PK-78 Haroon Bilour was martyred in a suicide attack that left 21 people dead, sending shock waves across the country. Haroon was the son of Bashir Ahmed Bilour, a senior ANP figure who was himself martyred in a 2012 suicide blast in Peshawar.
