ISLAMABAD: Former president and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders were responsible for rifts within the grand opposition alliance.
The former president’s comment came in response to a question as he arrived at the Parliament House to cast his vote for the country’s 13th presidential election.
When asked for his opinion on PML-N leaders’ statements that he divided the opposition, Zardari retorted, “I divided the opposition? Why not say that Mian Sahib has never sat on opposition benches.”
Zardari said that Prime Minister Imran Khan should meet US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo during his visit to Pakistan on September 5.
The PPP and PML-N have been at loggerheads after the former fielded Aitzaz Ahsan as its nominee for the presidential poll. The other opposition parties later announced that Maulana Fazlur Rehman will be their candidate for the poll. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had already nominated Dr Arif Alvi as its presidential candidate.
