LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hamza Shehbaz on Tuesday vowed not to let Prime Minister Imran Khan backtrack from his promise of assistance in investigating the alleged rigging carried out in the July 25 elections.
The opposition leader in Punjab Assembly, while speaking to media representatives after casting his vote in the presidential election, said that PML-N would not let the premier avoid a proposed parliamentary commission’s probe into the rigging allegations that surrounded the general polls.
He alleged that the 2018 general election had been the most-rigged polls in the country’s history and this would not be “digested”. “Federal Information Technology Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has described it as a “fake election” and the former caretaker chief minister in Punjab had expressed similar views,” he said.
The PML-N leader stated further that his party would play its due parliamentary role to unearth the facts behind the alleged “theft of mandate”.
He also said that his party had always favoured continuation of the democratic process and believed in playing the role of a responsible opposition in the Punjab Assembly.
To a question, Hamza said that 29 PML-N lawmakers cast their votes in favour of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman.
