FM Qureshi affirms full support to Kashmiri people

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Foreign Affairs Shah Mehmood Qureshi held a meeting with Azad Jammu Kashmir President Masood Khan and discussed the current situation of the Indian-held Kashmir (IHK).

President Masood congratulated him on his appointment as the foreign minister and briefed him about the human rights situation in the occupied territory. Highlighting findings of the report of the UN Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), he regretted that instead of addressing the concerns raised in the report on human rights violations perpetrated by the Indian forces, India has exacerbated its repression with the imposition of the governor’s rule and resorting to brute use of force.

Foreign Minister Qureshi welcomed the recommendation of the OHCHR report to constitute a commission of inquiry (COI) to investigate the gross and systematic human rights violations in the disputed state. He highlighted the steps taken by the ministry and Pakistani missions aboard to underscore the importance of the OHCHR report and stated that Pakistan will continue to draw attention to the findings of the report at international forums.

The foreign minister affirmed that the people and the government of Pakistan would continue to give full moral, diplomatic and political support to the Kashmiri people in their legitimate struggle to attain their inalienable right to self-determination.
