Sindh cabinet plans to install desalination plant in Karachi

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister (SM) Murad Ali Shah chaired a meeting of the provincial cabinet on Monday in which it was decided that a 300 million gallon desalination plant will be installed in Karachi.

Hub Power Company (Hubco) proposed that a 300 million gallon desalination plant be installed to deal with Karachi’s water crisis.

The agenda for the meeting included the water crisis in Karachi, a tentative ban on plastic bags and matters pertaining to the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) and appointment of judges in anti-terrorism courts.

According to authorities, the desalination plant will be installed near Hub. The Sindh CM also sought help from Hubco to generate electricity from garbage in Karachi.

The new Sindh cabinet was sworn in on August 19, with eight ministers and two advisers taking oath during the first phase of the cabinet formation.

Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho (Health, Population Welfare), Seth Hariram Kishorilal (Minorities Affairs, Social Welfare & Prisons), Saeed Ghani (Local Government, Public Health Engineering, Rural Development & Katchi Abadies), Mohammad Ismail Rahu (Agriculture, Supply and Prices), Mir Shabbir Ali Bijarani (Mines & Mineral Development), Makhdoom Mehboobuz Zaman (Revenue & Relief), Syed Sardar Ali Shah (Education, Culture, Tourism & Antiquities) and Shehla Raza (Women Development) formed the group of newly appointed ministers.
