SARGODHA: Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Sargodha has dismissed the bail pleas of 11 Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers, including newly elected Member of National Assembly (MNA) Dr Zulfiqar Bhatti, his son, and brother.
According to Cantonment police, a case was registered against Dr Zulfiqar and 200 other workers under several acts, including those of terrorism and targeting state institutions during their provocative speeches on July 25, amid the delay in announcement of electoral results.
Police had arrested six accused and sent them to jail on judicial remand while 11 others, including Dr Zulfiqar, his brother Sarfraz Bhatti and son Najaf Bhatt had obtained interim bail from a court.
ATC Judge Ateequr Rehman took up the case for hearing on Monday. During the course of proceedings, Dr Zulfiqar and 10 other suspects appeared before the court.
The court, after hearing the arguments of both the sides, dismissed the bail petition of Dr Zulfiqar and others who later fled from the court.
Taking serious notice of the incident, the court ordered police to arrest and present them as soon as possible.
MNA Dr Zulfiqar Bhatti, on the other hand, has said that he would approach the Lahore High Court (LHC) against the ATC decision.
