KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) former parliamentarian Syed Ali Raza Abidi has tendered in his resignation to the party citing personal reasons as his motivation to do so.

However, local media outlets suggest that the party’s key decisions regarding nominations for the upcoming by-elections did not sit well with Abidi.

Abidi submitted his resignation to MQM-P’s convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.

The former lawmaker announced his resignation on Twitter earlier on Sunday.

“I will not be able to continue participation with MQM-Pakistan due to personal reasons,” said the text in the tweet he shared. “Therefore, it is requested to accept my resignation from the basic membership.”

Abidi contested the July 25 polls from NA-243 and was defeated by PTI chairman Imran Khan, who later went on to vacate the seat.
