A new study reveals that Pakistan will see a 10% increase in water flow in River Indus from 2046-2075.
A team of experts from the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) conducted a baseline study on all 54 rivers in South Asia in the period 1976–2005 and devised a predictive climate model.
Global warming and climatic change will be responsible for the projected river flow as rainfall increases.
This expected increase in river flow could pose challenges for Pakistan in the future as rainfall levels decrease in lower parts of the country and increase in upper parts. Melting of glaciers, heat and evaporation will also lead to an increase in the flow of River Indus.
The study was published in Journal of Hydrology: Regional Studies.
