Google honours Fatima Surayya Bajia on 88th birthday

Google revealed a doodle on Saturday to celebrate Fatima Surayya Bajia’s 88th birth anniversary.

Fatima Surraya Bajia was an Urdu novelist and playwright who passed away in 2016.  She was born in Hyderabad (India) in 1930. Bajiya started her career as an actress in a play aired by PTV in 1966.

She wrote more than 10 plays and drama serials. She began her writing career from Islamabad and Lahore Pakistan Television (PTV) centres when the channel was launched.

Her most famous dramas include Aroosa, Zeenat, Shama and Afshan. Her first long play was Mehman, she also contributed for literary programmes like Auraaq, and beauty care programme under the title Aaraish-e-Khaam-e-Kakal and also produced some kid shows.

She was awarded various awards at home and abroad including the Pride of Performance Award, Hilal-i-Imtiaz Award and Japan’s Highest Civil Award. She also worked as an adviser to the Sindh chief minister.

She is the sister of renowned scriptwriter and satirist Anwar Maqsood, poet Zehra Nigah and the late TV chef Zubaida Tariq.

According to the official website, “doodles are the fun, surprising and sometimes spontaneous changes that are made to the Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries and the lives of famous artists, pioneers and scientists.”

To date, the multinational technology company has created more than 2,000 doodles.
