KARACHI – After losing out against Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 and Parwaz Hai Junoon in ticket sales, Load Wedding Director Nabeel Qureshi has alleged pre and post poll rigging against his film.
Talking exclusively to The Dependent, Qureshi also formally rejected the Box Office numbers and asked for re-screening.
“Khalai Makhlooq rigged the Box Office, only giving us 15-20% allocation in the cinemas. How is that fee and fair? Isn’t this the exhibitor commission’s responsibility to ensure that there’s equality within the cinemas?” Nabeel said.
The director also clarified that the banner under which his film was released does not describe his or his crew’s political inclinations.
“Let me make it clear, just because Geo is my media partner, does not mean I support Nawaz Sharif” he said. “It’s disheartening because we’re independent filmmakers who did not even vote for the PML-N! And yet the aliens are jeopardising our films.”
Qureshi further revealed that he would register his protest both ‘inside and outside cinema houses’.
“I reject the Box Office numbers, while simultaneously accepting them as well,” the director said. “What I will also do is protest through my filmmaking, and take to the streets as well – for shooting of course.”
