USC has no plan under consideration to shut down

ISLAMABAD: The Utility Stores Corporation of Pakistan (USC) on Thursday rejected reports published in local print and electronic media, which claimed that the government was intending to close down the Utility Stores.

It was reported that the USC spokesperson in a statement said that “it has initiated revamping and restructuring of its countrywide stores’ network in order to improve their performance to facilitate its clients on ensure supply of quality essential commodities on controlled rates.”

The spokesperson also said, “All such news items were baseless,” adding that “the ban on the procurement of the commodities was temporary and due to restructuring initiated by the Ministry of Industries and Production and would be removed soon after completion of the process”.

Besides, he said that there was no plan to remove any employee from the corporation as there are no plans to close down the business.

The spokesman further said, “The USC was determined to facilitate the common man in the country by providing them with the essential daily used quality commodities on controlled rates through its network across the country.”

In addition to that, the spokesperson said, “In order to facilitate the people in the country, the services and operations of the USC would be further improved to provide quality products on controlled rates.”
