LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Saad Rafique on Thursday submitted his nomination papers for NA-131 Lahore 9 constituency by-elections.
In recently held 2018 general elections, Rafique lost to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in a closely fought contest, in which Khan got 84,313 votes while he received 83,633 votes.
PML-N issued the ticket to the former railway minister to contest the by-polls from the same constituency after Prime Minister Imran Khan vacated this seat to keep his hometown seat of NA-95 Mianwali.
The nomination papers of Saad Rafique were submitted by his spokesperson Qasim, and returning officer Raham Zada accepted them.
Further, Rafique’s wife Ghazala is nominated as the covering candidate for the former minister.
Meanwhile, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has submitted his nomination papers for the NA-124 constituency. The seat was vacated by PML-N leader Hamza Shehbaz.
By-elections will be held countrywide on October 14.
