KARACHI: A case was registered against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Khawaja Izharul Hasan’s brother Absarul Hasan for land grabbing and china-cutting in Karachi.

Karachi Development Authority (KDA) filed a complaint against Absarul Hasan for illegally seizing government land in Sarjani Town.

The FIR [First information report] mentioned that the suspect is involved in the illegal settlement and upon investigation Absarul Hasan showed documents of Muradabad Society, which did not match.

According to Anti-Encroachment Department of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Hasan has illegally taken control of certain lands and is running the china-cutting business in Sarjani Town.

China cutting refers to the practice pioneered by MQM leaders in Karachi wherein they take over and slice plots from public parks and amenities to sell the land commercially for large profit.

On the other hand, MQM leader Khawaja Izhar-ul Hasan has condemned the proceedings, saying that he will pursue a legal course of action against the ‘allegations’.
