ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said that Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry is still behaving like Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokesperson and not a government functionary.
She said that he needs to understand that issuing statements against PML-N leaders will not build five million houses and create 10 million jobs as promised by PTI.
While responding to Fawad Chaudhry’s statement regarding Maryam Nawaz, she said that his statement against Maryam Nawaz is as true as his statement regarding Rs50/ km helicopter rides of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The way the current government is being run, it seems that the people would need to search for the 10 million new jobs and five million homes too on Google, just like the information minister found the helicopter fare on Google.
She said that he needs to understand that his days of being the PTI spokesperson are over where he used to campaign based on lies and false allegations. PTI could be run on lies by its spokesperson, but the country cannot be run on lies by the information minister. “Fawad Chaudhry needs to understand this difference and should at least keep the honor of the office he has been entrusted with”, she said.
She also pointed out that Fawad Chaudhry’s claim regarding pioneering the channel for live broadcast of National Assembly (NA) proceedings is also a lie as this project had already been pioneered and inaugurated by her in May 2018. PTI needs to come up with their own initiatives to come good on their tall claims instead of re-inaugurating the projects of the previous government.
The former information minister said that the restructuring of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) would only be done in accordance with the Constitution of Pakistan and not on anyone’s whims and fancies. Nobody would be allowed to take any steps to further curb the right to freedom of the press, which already under severe attack in the republic, she stressed.
She advised the information minister to stop behaving like Google-savvy millennials and read up the constitution to save the government and the country from international embarrassment.
Speaking about media’s coverage of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s recent statements, she said that only those statements that come from her regarding the former premier should be given value as she is the PML-N spokesperson.
